The group of GB Frisoni has a long lasting expertise in the field of Alzheimer's disease research. The main scientific interest in latest years has been on neuroimaging in cognitive impairment: efforts have been directed to the translation of basic research for understanding the pathophysiology and helping the diagnosis of dementing disorders in clinical settings. Specific topics of investigations have been:

- Interaction of genotype (mainly apoE) with phenotype in the degenerative dementias
- In vivo neurobiology of Alzheimer disease and frontotemporal dementia with magnetic resonance imaging
- Population epidemiology of mild cognitive impairment
- The biological basis of behavioural disturbances in dementia, and imaging tools for the routine and advanced diagnosis of Alzheimer's and other dementias.
