Organisation de la fonction sexuelle humaine : des relations interpersonnelles aux réseaux neuronaux

Notre groupe mène des recherches sur la fonction sexuelle humaine ainsi que sur les relations affectives et interpersonnelles qui y sont associées. Plus spécifiquement, notre groupe s'intéresse aux différentes phases de la réponse sexuelle chez l'être humain, aux comportements associés et aux différentes dysfonctions sexuelles qui peuvent affecter chacune de ces phases. Un intérêt particulier est également porté aux relations affectives et interpersonnelles qui interagissent avec le comportement sexuel humain et qui déterminent souvent le choix du partenaire et le fonctionnement du couple.

Notre but est de mieux comprendre les mécanismes conscients et inconscients qui sont sous-jacents aux relations affectives et aux comportements sexuels humains. Pour réaliser ce projet, un accent particulier est donné aussi bien à la recherche clinique en sexologie qu'à la recherche en neuroscience sociale et sexuelle.
Notre champ de recherche concerne certains domaines privilégiés comme le désir et le plaisir sexuels, le sentiment passionnel amoureux (qui détermine profondément le comportement sexuel, interpersonnel et social), la sexualité de la femme, et les différences hommes/femmes.

À Genève, nous collaborons avec le NIC Laboratory dans une étude en neuroimagerie par résonance magnétique sur le désir sexuel chez la femme saine et aussi dans une population clinique souffrant de baisse du désir sexuel.

En parallèle, nous avons développé une collaboration internationale aux Etats-Unis avec le Laboratory for Advanced Neuroscience à la Syracuse University (New-York) afin d'étudier les différentes phases de la réponse sexuelle physiologique humaine avec des technologies de pointe (i.e., IRMf, 3D-EEG, DTI, et TMS). Une série de projets de recherche est actuellement en cours avec ce centre dans le but d'éclaircir: i) les mécanismes sous-tendant la fonction sexuelle humaine, ii) les processus émotionnels et cognitifs qui y sont rattachés, iii) la plasticité cérébrale et la fonction sexuelle humaine, iv) l'interaction entre comportements sexuels et représentation du schéma corporel et contexte social, et enfin vi) les différences inter- et intra-individuelles au niveau des relations affectives, interpersonnelles et sexuelles.

Le développement sur la scène genevoise, nationale et aussi internationale de cette dynamique de recherche nous permet de conceptualiser la réponse sexuelle humaine selon une nouvelle modélisation multidimensionnelle. Ceci nous permet d'accroître les connaissances dans ce domaine fascinant et de développer une approche pluridisciplinaire et novatrice des problématiques sexuelles.
L'application de ces nouvelles connaissances à la pratique clinique constitue un atout majeur pour le développement de thérapies adaptées aux besoins actuels des patients/es souffrant de dysfonctions sexuelles et/ou de difficultés relationnelles personnelles (e.g., relation à l'image de soi) et interpersonnelles (e.g., attachement à l'autre).
