Pathogenèse et le traitement des allergies alimentaires

La thématique du groupe est la recherche sur la pathogenèse et le traitement des allergies alimentaires. Notre projet principal bénéficie d'une subvention de recherche du FNRS et concerne le rôle des lymphocytes T du tractus digestif dans l'allergie alimentaire. Nous utilisons un modèle de souris présentant une anaphylaxie alimentaire comparable à l'allergie alimentaire chez l'humain. Nous comparons divers paramètres immunologiques (production de cytokines, d'anticorps¿) qui nous permettent de déterminer le rôle des divers sites immunitaires associés au tractus digestif, en fonction du status clinique. En utilisant ce modèle, nous avons découvert que les lymphocytes T des plaques de Peyer, plus particulièrement par la sécrétion de l'interleukin 10, permettent de moduler la réponse allergique en instaurant une tolérance.
Aucun traitement actif de l'allergie alimentaire n'est disponible actuellement. En appliquant nos découvertes sur la pathogenèse de la maladie, nous utilisons des agents infectieux permettant par la production de cytokines tels l'IL-10 de moduler la réponse immunitaire spécifique à des antigènes alimentaires majeurs. D'autres substances immunomodulatrices sont également testées en collaboration avec des partenaires de l'industrie.
